This scholarship was established to honor the lives of Don and Regina Schumacher. Don and Regina farmed in Champaign County all their lives. They believed in hard work, in opportunities created through education, and in taking care of the land for future generations. Don’s and Regina’s farming decisions supported sustaining the planet and population health through evidence-based agricultural and environmental sciences and practices. This scholarship seeks to honor their legacy by encouraging sustainable farming practices and continuing to cultivate future agriculture leaders through post-secondary education. For graduating seniors in the Foundation’s service area who have been accepted by a two- or four-year public college or university. The scholarship is intended for students who need help covering the costs of higher ed. Preference will be given to students who plan to enroll in an agriculture- and/or rural development-related program of study.
