Devon “Wayne” Turner was a beloved father and leader in the community, who enriched and encouraged lives around him. He adored the love of his life Donyetta and his four brilliant and dynamic children, each who reflect special qualities and characteristics of Wayne. Wayne had a special heart in many ways. In particular, he had the unique ability to foster trust, lead with compassion, and show love that empowered the next generation of young Black people. You could find Wayne supporting students in the halls of Champaign Central High School and throughout the community with his mentoring program Boyz 2 Men, as a volunteer with STEAM Genius, and other nonprofits. This scholarship is intended to provide funding for a graduating high school senior from Champaign Central who identifies as Black or African-American, a participant in extracurricular activities and/or community service, and pursuing a post-high school education.
