What is a Community Foundation?

A community foundation is a publicly supported nonprofit that connects generous people with the causes they care about. The Community Foundation of East Central Illinois has served the region since 1972, stewarding donor advised, non-endowed, and endowed funds on behalf of donors—individuals, families, businesses, and organizations—whose contributions are permanently invested to support the community’s charitable needs. An independent board of volunteer trustees ensures every fund is managed with integrity, accountability, and a long-term view.

Accredited for Excellence

In 2008, CFECI earned accreditation from the Community Foundations National Standards, the nation’s leading philanthropic association. This accreditation seal represents a community foundation’s commitment to rigorous, sector-driven best practices that exceed federal and state law requirements and demonstrates accountability and excellence to communities, policymakers, and the public.
